Analysis and therapy

“Nobody, as long as he moves about among the chaotic currents of life, is without trouble.” CG Jung

What is Jungian analysis?

Jungian analysis is the form of psychotherapy developed by CG Jung. It is based on a dialogue and relationship with an analyst committed to listening – listening to your unique life story, as well as to the symbolic language of the unconscious as expressed in dreams, images and emotions.

Today traditional Jungian analysis is informed and confirmed by recent developments and insights from neuroscience, such as brain plasticity, memory, neural connections and the emotional brain. (For examples, see Margaret Wilkinson, Coming into Mind, Routledge 2006.) The work is to reconcile the conscious attitude with the demands of life and the whole personality, including the unconscious and inner self. It is work. It can be challenging – change often is. The reward is invaluable.

Analysis is not a “ready-made” method or solution, much less a cure. We leave assumptions and prejudices aside. Analysis does not “put anything” into a client. It is only a means for removing stones from the path of development.

Professional background – the CG Jung Institute

I am a graduate and accredited member of the CG Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland (www.junginstitut.ch). I am a member of the Norsk Forening for Analytisk Psykologi, and the International Association for Analytical Psychology. I am fluent in English and Norwegian and comfortable working in either language.

Previously I have worked for many years as a consultant and senior business executive. My educational background includes an executive MBA and law degrees in England and the United States.

Issues typically addressed in analysis and therapy:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Bereavement and mourning
  • Burn-out
  • Relationship issues
  • Stress
  • Self-confidence and self-esteem
  • Spiritual or religious issues
  • Unhelpful patterns of behaviour

In analysis the main emphasis is not on diagnosis, cause and “cure,” but on gaining a sense of meaning, developing and building a path forward.
